Open Word Document The Challenge
KCI was recently retained by HBO Affiliate Relations to promote the third season of the popular hit comedy Sex and the City. In Los Angeles and San Francisco, KCI handled media relations and promotions. The challenge was to creatively position the preview screening events to attract consumer and media attention without the availability of any of the show's stars.

In Los Angeles, the setting became part of the story as Hollywood's hip, new Beauty Bar served martinis and manicures to VIP guests. M.A.C. Cosmetics provided makeovers and HBO gave away Sex and the City gift baskets. Media at the event included the Los Angeles Times, KTLA-TV, KCOP-TV, The Hollywood Reporter, LA2Nite.com, New Times and Arrow 93 Radio. Both television stations conducted live remotes from the party for their 10:00 p.m. newscasts.

In San Francisco, KCI and HBO created the search for San Francisco's sexiest man and set up promotional partnerships with K101 Radio, Z95 Radio and city site SFSTATION.COM. All were given tickets to the invite-only event to give away online and on-air. KCI worked with San Francisco Examiner fashion columnist Lord Martine on an advance piece hyping the party. Media in attendance at the event included The San Francisco Chronicle, The San Francisco Examiner, K101, Z95, Marin Independent, KTVU-TV, BAY-TV and ANG Newspapers.

The Results
Over 400 people attended the event in Los Angeles and over 1300 in San Francisco creating much buzz for the show and filling each venue to capacity. The sneak peek screenings became the "hottest" ticket in town. The events generated over 2 million media impressions.
